Lee Bottom Flying Field's Entry EDY'S Two Scoop Neighborhood Salute Ice Cream Block Party
Originally established in the 1930's, Lee Bottom Airport has a colorful history all its own. From wayward barnstormers, to cropdusting operations, and aircraft salvage, this beautiful strip has seen it all. Today, a favorite destination for Antique & Classic owners, the field offers a welcome trip back to simpler times. Many pilots enjoy visiting because we offer something that they can not find at other airports - beautiful scenery, friendly atmosphere, and great planes mixed to create something special. Most stop by for an afternoon chat around our infamous picnic table, a can of soda out of the pop machine, and a chance to renew their own batteries before heading back to the frenzied lives that we all live. As the airport receives no funding from local, state, or federal sources, the entire operation is supported by us. Most ask why? Well, we provide our aviation refuge because we want to preserve this unique ambiance and airport atmosphere, that is huge a part of our aviation history, for the current and future generations. Seeing one of our traveling neighbors enjoy the field makes all of the sacrifices that we make throughout the year worth while. To encourage our “flock” to visit on a monthly basis, in 2005 we have initiated our own form of the old-fashioned ice cream social called “Sinful Sundays”. On these special Sunday afternoons, we will have “sinfully delicious” ice cream, sundaes, and malts available to our airport family as a special treat. What an honor it would be to host the Edy's Slow Churned™ Light Ice Cream Two Scoop Neighborhood Salute on one of our “Sinful Sundays”. |
